(More to do with privacy and security issues.) If the Ant folks can effectively deal with these intrusiveness concerns, they will really have something. I ditched IDM some time ago, because it was considerably more problematic than this. I found that I needed to make sure that Ant had been **completely Exited**, meaning that it was Closed out of the Systray as well, in order to avoid this. (Say WHAT ?!) This explicitly referred to Ant, and was very annoying. The shutdown would hang, with an error message about how some memory address could not be read. On a Win 7 machine here, Ant was causing a problem with Windows Shutdown. Another and rather glaring example: I checked the box for "Never Search for Ant updates", on the theory that an update if accepted would invalidate the giveaway license, which is quite often the case with the promo versions, but Ant still checks for updates - frequently ! For some of these it does, but for others it does NOT. There are at least two places in the Ant settings where you can specify "Exclusions" - for file types and for particular sites - but Ant seems to have a rather spotty record when it comes to obeying these user directives. It clashes with my excellent DownThemAll extension for FF, which I greatly prefer for handling certain tasks. I'm strongly in favor of a program doing its thing WHERE & WHEN you direct it to, but **NOT** at other times or in other circumstances. If it's not already familiar, look up the primary definition of the word "officious", which really applies here. but the SoS wrapper is likely different from the one in use here ?īasically, I am in agreement with RiverBoatSam, in comment #14. I did not have any problems installing or registering. If that happened, it would incline me to purchase the program. In general, I find Ant to be an interesting and capable software, albeit one with some annoying behaviors that I would like the developers to address. If the Ant DM developers are monitoring this (and I hope they are), I can mention that I left a few product comments over on the SoS discussion board - because they prefer it to go there, rather than within user reviews - and I don't especially want to reprise things I've already said.
